i got the internet blues...and a new home!

Hi there. Right now i’m hanging out at McD’s for some free internet. Being without internet is hard. Really hard. We thought it would be only 2 weeks of holiday letting while we waited to move into our new home, but 2 weeks has turned into 4, and now it seems we also wont be moving in in 2 days as planned....so we’ll be without internet for at least another 2 weeks! Looks like i’m gonna have to start liking Mc D’s coffee :P

 

You may see some random posts popping up in random order. I have been writing my blog posts in pages while i’ve been without internet, and when i do manage to find some free internet, i post what i can, in no particular order. So if things are a bit jumbled here, i apologize. Hopefully we will be in our new place, settled with internet and all by mid march sometime. Hopefully.....

 

Speaking of the ‘said’ home.... we bought a house. FINALLY. We’ve been looking for over a year now. Adam sold his unit on the beach for much much less than he’d hoped, and i’d sold my home of 20something years (My mum owned it before me, I bought it off her 7 years ago). We’ve been house hunting for what seemed like forever when we finally found our home. It’s a cross between a colonial style home and a queenslander, and the entire thing is made of wood. And i mean E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G is wood. Everything. It’s so over done it’s crazy. I love seeing peoples faces when they first see it. Even with all the warning, one cannot fathom such an overdone use of wood. Even the toilet’s wood! Yep, it’s a wood box. Just like an out-house, only it’s inside! So, obviously, theres alot of work to be done.AS soon as i can, i’ll share some  pics. But for now, i’ve gotta go.

 

Tash's Bday (#2)

 

Heres some more bday pics from my sister bday. Theres too many photos for one post, so i've spread them out over 3 posts.

It's was held at a kitch little cafe with fake grass floors and mis-matched furniture and 80's parifanalia everywhere, so decorating for it was easy, as i kept it quite simple. Heres some little peaks at what we did...

There was a little table set up with all her fave lollies on it, and some glow-stick bracelets just for fun.

I ordered some yummy cake-pops from here...which were an absolute hit!

 I hung up pom poms and attached various embarrasing and fun photos from the years with ribbon and had them hanging all around. Yes, she's a fan of the finger, my sister.

I took my mighty big mac screen in (24" screen) and created a photo booth with props and all. (pics in next post, to come) I also bought a zillion cheap beaded necklaces for a game we played through-out the night . It's kinda like the safteypin game you play at baby showers.

 

Happy Birthday lil Sis! (post #1)

My sister is awesome. She really is. And one of the most talented people i know to boot. I thank god i have a sister and that we are as close as we are. And i love that we have so many crazy, fun, scary , and more crazy memories together. ( love u Tash!) 

Last night i threw a surprise party for her at a little local cafe called St. Kilda's. The decor in there is kitch and a little bit cooky....perfect setting for a party. Katie, the owner, was awsome, giving us the outdoor area, and letting me go nuts with the decor.

And remember the rainbow cake i was worried about???

The night was heaps of fun and i think we actually managed to keep it a surprise till she got there! TJ was a par-tay animal (i hope thats not an indication of things to come ;)

 

baking a cake

Yep. Thats a biggie for me. I'm not a cake person. Just ask my kids. When i tell them i'm going to bake a cake, they ask me, "can Bec do it instead?" Thats my friend, who bakes much better cakes than i do. Obviously.

Up until now, when someone has a birthday, they get to pick out thier cake from the cake shop. Yep, i love my store bought cakes. I dont have to fret over baking the perfect cake, which usually ends up crooked with all the icing dripping to one side and the bday kiddo is guarunteed a yummy cake! win win.

So for some crazy reason this year i decided to bake my lil sis a bday cake for her bday (i'm throwing her a surprise party). And not just any old cake either.... a 6 layer rainbow cake! 

Yes, go hard or go home people.

So here it is.....the cake has been baked (with lots of HELP phone calls to my good friend Bec).

 

and here it is, fully iced...ready to go!

Not bad for a first time attempt, hey? The only thing that has me freaked is that you dont know if it was a success or not until it's actually cut into! This could still go so bad....

 

It's Friday night and the moon is high...

We thought we'd welcome the weekend with an easy BBQ dinner and walk along Burliegh beach. Just look at the moon! And the photo doesn't do it any justice. Hope you have a super weekend!

a good morning.....

We are living in a tiny 2 bedroom apartment in burliegh while we still look for a home. 2 bedrooms, one bathroom 6 people and a kitchen thats the size of my old bathroom. But really, i cant complain too much. Just look at what a wake up to every mormning...

The sounds of the ocean and this glorious view.

And if thats not enough to keep me happy, heres some more sweetness in my mornings...

How could i not wake up with a smile on my face?
